You notice when the vents kick on and force air out, or when your AC starts up and the cabinet fan begins to whir. Those are all normal.

But how do you know if you need AC repair in Windermere, FL solely based on the sounds that it makes? There are some noises it definitely shouldn’t make and we’re here to tell you what those are.

Overly Loud Banging Noises

Your AC has a lot of working parts and sometimes those parts aren’t strapped down the way that they’re supposed to be. Loose parts bang around and can cause damage to other components.

It’s okay for your AC to make some banging noises when it turns on, but it should end there. Continued banging sounds indicate that there’s a problem.

Light Buzzing or Humming Noise

Any time you hear a light buzzing noise, it’s usually electrical. Once you’ve factored out any electrical interference noises from your electrical panel, that low-grade hum you’re hearing may be coming from your air conditioner. Specifically, the motor.

If the condenser fan is running into problems, it makes a buzzing noise. That same sound could indicate that there’s an issue with the isolation feet as well, which isn’t as big of a problem thankfully.

Lastly, check your air conditioner to see if the evaporator coil is frozen. If there’s ice hindering the operation of your fan, it can cause serious damage. This could be due to a refrigerant leak or airflow problem to start, and it only evolves into bigger issues from there.

High-Pitched Squealing or Screeching Sound

We can all agree that this is an unsettling sound no matter the source. If you hear a squealing sound from your air conditioner, it could be a sign of increasing internal tension. This can occur if the metal components aren’t properly lubricated and are scraping against each other.

Typically, dry metal-on-metal sounds are your fan motor and bearings scraping against one another. If this sound only started recently, a technician may be able to lubricate these parts to prevent large-scale damage.

Unyielding Clicking Sound

After you set your thermostat to cooling mode, you may hear a light clicking sound as it signals the change to the actual unit. That’s normal, as long as it stops shortly after you change the thermostat settings.

If that clicking continues, it indicates a potential issue with the capacitor. In a best-case scenario, your thermostat may just need a tune-up or minor repair from a technician, though this isn’t likely the case.

Your Noisy AC Needs Help

It’s time to stop the racket that your AC is causing and treat the underlying issues before they get worse. You don’t want your air conditioner giving out on you, especially when you need it most. If you can recognize any of these sounds coming out of your AC, it’s time to call for repairs.

Contact English Air Inc. today to schedule an air conditioner repair that’ll stop all that unnecessary noise.

Your AC is supposed to be quiet.
