4 Signs You Need AC Repair

white-question-mark-on-blue-background

Spending time indoors should be a comfortable experience, but when there is something wrong with your air conditioner, this isn’t quite possible. Air conditioners do need occasional work done on them, and when they do we are here to provide you with reliable AC repair in Apopka, FL.

This also means, however, that you need to know the signs to watch out for that indicate when you need these repairs. Some are easily apparent, but others are more subtle. Read on to learn more!

You Were Told of Repair Needs During Maintenance

This one isn’t so much a sign as it is advice. You should have preventive maintenance done on your air conditioner at least once a year—twice if you have a year-round heat pump system. Maintenance allows our professionals to comprehensively inspect, clean, and adjust the components that need it.

It’s during this service that we’ll spot any signs of natural wear and tear and alert you to them. This is your chance to get those repairs on your schedule, before they turn into bigger emergencies, such as a complete AC breakdown.

The System Is Making Loud, Strange Noises

No air conditioner is going to be silent. You’re going to hear things like the hum of the motor as it runs, the “whoosh” of air going through the vents, and even the slight rattle of ductwork as the temperature fluctuates inside of them.

While these are normal noises, anything outside of this should be cause for concern. This can include banging, scraping, screeching, or hissing. Each of these are signs of something going on internally with your AC, and you should give us a call right away.

You Have Low Airflow

The first thing we want you to do if you are experiencing low airflow coming from the vents is to check the air filter. All air conditioners have air filters (even portable window units!). They aren’t there to protect your indoor air quality, but rather to protect the system itself from dust, dirt, and other debris that can get inside and damage the components within.

When the air filter gets too clogged up, however, it restricts the airflow being drawn into the system, and therefore can negatively affect the airflow coming back out.

If you’ve changed the air filter recently—it should be changed or cleaned every 1–3 months depending on the type of filter—then there could be something else at play here such as damaged ductwork or a broken fan.

Your Energy Bills Are Abnormally High

Have you looked at your utility bills this month only to discover that they’re much higher than they’ve ever been in years prior around this same time? How about in comparison to what your neighbors are paying?

If your utility bills are abnormally high for this time of the year, it’s a sign that something in your home is working inefficiently, and it could very well be your air conditioner. After all, your HVAC systems account for half of all the energy use in any given home. It could be a repair need causing your AC to work inefficiently, so be sure to give us a call for help!
