Help! I Think My Heat Pump is Broken!

You want your heat pump to work like it’s supposed to, right? So, if there’s a problem, you want to be sure that you schedule your heating repair in Orlando, FL as soon as possible!

There are a number of reasons why your heat pump might not be working properly, more specifically, why it might be not be providing you with the heat you need, so below, we have listed some of these reasons for you. All you’ve got to do is keep reading to find out more!

So, What’s the Deal?

Like we mentioned above, there are a number of reasons why your heat pump might not keeping you as warm as it should:

A Clogged Air Filter

One of the first things that your HVAC technician will check for is a clogged air filter. When the filter becomes too clogged with dirt and debris, it restricts the amount of air that enters the heat pump to be heated. Air filters need to be replaced more than once a year. In fact, it is recommended that air filters are changed every 1-3 months.

Thermostat Troubles

Sometimes the issue doesn’t actually lie within the heat pump itself. A faulty thermostat can be the reason why you’re not receiving the heat you want. If the thermostat is miscalibrated, the heat pump won’t run long enough to maintain the level of heat your home needs. Also, if the connection between the thermostat and the pump is broken, it is impossible to change the system over to heating mode.

Leaking Refrigerant

Heat pumps need a specific amount of refrigerant to function properly, even if it is in heating mode! During the winter, the refrigerant absorbs the heat in the surrounding air so it can heat your home. If there is a leak, then you’ll probably notice lukewarm air.

Broken Reversing Valve

The reversing valve is the mechanism that allows your heat pump to switch from cooling mode to heating mode and vice versa. If the valve becomes stuck, your system won’t be able to switch modes. Fortunately, a certified HVAC technician has the training and equipment to correctly replace the valve.
